Adrian Marshall is a retired biologist. Undertaking much of his research in Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia, he became fascinated by the visit there in the 1850s of that great pioneer of tropical biology and evolutionary theory, Alfred Russel Wallace. The Singapore Letters of Benjamin Cook, though in fictional form, gives an accurate glimpse of the young city as Wallace would have seen it. Marshall is also the author of Nemesis: The First Iron Warship and Her World.
