Gretchen Liu is the author of Pastel Portraits, the seminal and classic book on Singapore architecture first published in 1984. She has an abiding interest in the built heritage of Singapore and, as a journalist, book editor and author, has participated in many projects in this field. Other authoritative books she has written are the centennial history of the National Museum of Singapore, the official book on Raffles Hotel, for which she was highly commended by the National Book Development Council in its biennial awards, and Singapore: A Pictorial History 1819 - 2000. She has also edited The Singapore House, which stands as the definitive book on the subject.
