Jessie Wee was a teacher before she started writing stories based on a conviction that Singaporean children needed stories that reflected Singapore’s culture and environment. She has written 23 books to date, among which are The Adventures of Mooty series, Work and Play, War and Peace, Supercat, A Home in the Sky, A Friend in Need, Grandpa’s Remedy, Secret of the Malacca Cabinet, and The Little Men of Yix. Celebrated for her attractive storytelling style, a keen sense of humour, and a sensitive understanding of children, Jessie was given the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award in Children’s Literature by the Singapore Book Council in 2013.
