Jim Baker is a history and economics teacher at the Singapore American School. He is an American who has lived in Singapore for most of his life. His parents and grandparents were active participants in civil society through Christian mission work in the region. Baker’s contributions to his adopted home are of a different bent. He wrote Crossroads, A Popular History of Malaysia and Singapore in 1999, co-authored Countries of the World: Singapore (2002) with his wife and wrote the text for Singapore’s Eagles, the fiftieth anniversary publication of the Singapore American School. Baker has a bachelor’s degree in history, a master’s in education, and is a commentator on Singapore history and current events.
