NOT BY SIGHT A Memoir of 40 Years in Education
by Peter Tan Chong Tze
“Despite my challenges, including the lost of sight,
I feel tremendously blessed to be a blessing.”
Over the course of 24 years, Peter Tan Chong Tze was Principal of three schools: Anglo-Chinese School ( Junior), Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road), and Queensway Secondary School.
Not by Sight is a testament to the perseverance with which he soldiered on through the ups and downs in his life, from childhood to his retirement at 63.
The hand of God upon him was such that, his desire to become a missionary shifted to the calling to be a teacher – only to be challenged by a condition that would lead to blindness, resulting in his being asked to leave teacher training.
But, miraculously, he was allowed to continue and embark on a long and meaningful career in which he encountered situations that uplifted his values and beliefs.
He was also enabled by grace to overcome the hurts of being raised in a family with an absent father and journey with others to arrive at the place of familial forgiveness and reconciliation.
Students, parents and educators will be encouraged and motivated by his honest and sincere sharing of what he has learnt through the varied experiences of his career and life.
